'GOOD READS' & POETRY

There are 3 'Good Read' Groups and 1 Poetry Group

A Good Read

This group is limited to 10 members who meet on the first Monday in the month at 1.45pm in each others homes. A book is given to everyone at the meeting and is read during the month to be discussed at the next meeting. Discussions often extend beyond the book to social topics, films, theatre etc. which have been inspired by the text. We end with tea and biscuits at around 3.45pm Authors read recently include Timothy Mo, Jane Smiley, Susan Hill, Angus Wilson, Paul Scott, Joanne Harris and Hanif Kureisha.

Another Good Read

This group meets on Tuesday afternoons once a month fitting in with holiday commitments whenever possible. We take turns to host the meetings and discuss the 'book of the month' plus topics and situations it depicts, often side-tracking with personal experiences brought to mind by the reading matter. Our varying impressions are sometimes surprising, and it is difficult to predict which books will receive acclaim. Some of the books are supplied through Morpeth library, others are purchases.

A Good Read 3

The group meets in members houses on the second Wednesday of each month at 2.00pm The meeting takes the form of a short review of the book, usually by the convenor, or anyone who feels confident to do so, followed by an open discussion. The choice of the next book is decided by the next hostess, thus ensuring that we have a wide variety of texts to read. We buy or borrow from friends or libraries. books chosen range from 'A Prodigal Summer' by American author Barbara Kingsolver to Dicken's 'Great Expectations'.

Poetry

This group meets in each others houses at 2pm on the first Thursday in each month.
