GARDEN VISITING, VEGETABLE GROWING & GEOLOGY

GARDEN VISITING

There are now 2 Garden Group and they both meet in January or February to plan their visits for the year. These run from March through to September. The visits for the first group are usually on a Wednesday but other days are often included. The second group usually travels on a Friday. Different members of the group organise the visits and two trips in the year involve a coach outing to a more distant garden.

On our coach outings over the last couple of years we have visited Floors Castle in Scotland, Holehird in Cumbria, Harlow Carr, the RHS garden near Harrogate and Bramham Park in Yorkshire. Nearer visits have been to Wallington, Cragside, Howick Hall, Belsay Castle, Bide-a-wee Cottage and Carlisle Park in Morpeth. Where possible we arrange a guided tour.

VEGETABLE GROWING AND PLANT RAISING.

This group usually meets on a Thursday morning and visits local nurseries to select their vegetable plants or potatoes for the year and later in the year they visit gardens where a vegetable section is part of the garden. Visits to members own gardens are also included in the year's plan.

GEOLOGY

We organise a series of Field Trips to look at sites of geological interest on the 2nd Thursday of each month during the summer, usually from April to October. Areas covered range from Staithes in the south to Berwick in the north, from Tynemough in the east to Sedburgh in the west.

We also meet during the winter to plan the following year's programme and watch geology videos.
